Significance of Exercise

Exercise plays vital role in the healthy development of our mind, body and soul. If we make exercise a part of our lifestyle then we will feel younger and will have longer life expectancy. There are some genuine benefits of regular exercise, as those having high levels of physical fitness have a lower risk of diseases. According to a report stated by the Journal of the American Medical Association if your physical fitness is high then you will have a healthy and disease free life.

Other significant benefits of Exercise are good sleep, avoid weight gain, minimizing the risk of high blood pressure, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and even depression. Rachel Permuth-Levine, PhD, deputy director for the Office of Strategic and Innovative Programs at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health stated, “One study found that when breast cancer survivors engaged in exercise, there were marked improvements in physical activity, strength, maintaining weight, and social well-being,” she further added, “Another study looked at patients with stable heart failure and determined that exercise relieves symptoms, improves quality of life, reduces hospitalization, and in some cases, reduces the risk of death.”

She further stated that exercise plays key role in the making people healthy and improving their health conditions. She also said, “If we can see benefits of moderate exercise in people who are recovering from disease, we might see even greater benefits in those of us who are generally well.”

People often believe that hard physical activity will give results. On the contrary, if you exercise moderately, i.e. five to six times a week then this will lead to long lasting health benefits. While incorporating exercise in your daily lives, you need to follow a few simple things:

  • When you exercise with moderate intensity at least 30 minutes for 5 days.
  • You must avoid inactive periods and try to engage yourself in some other physical activities.
  • You must supplement aerobic exercise (cardio) with weight-bearing activities at least twice a week to strengthen your muscle groups.

Usually, people often make excuses that they don’t have time to exercise daily.  According to the experts, even you are unable to do weight loss activities, still regular brief period exercise will minimize the risk of cardiovascular disease.

To attain your objective, you must set some realistic goals. For instance, it would be advisable to take the stairs instead of the elevator. You must avoid car while going to buy grocery. In order to follow your exercise habit religiously, you need some variations in your exercise regime. For instance, you must go for swimming one day and walking the next. Go out and play soccer game or cricket with your kids.

You can also buy an exercise bike in your home or any other exercise equipment. You can also join a health club. You must understand the significance of exercise in your life. It is as important as having food or sleep. Regular exercise is certainly a major requisite for the healthy being of a person.
